Default Invulnerable monk/ranger?

Hey all, i did a search for the title name and didnt find anything that explained what i was looking for.

I took my Mo/Me through thirsty river last night and when i got back to augury rock i was looking for a group to go to elonas reach. This lvl 16 Mo/R said he'd run me for 5g (yes that's 5 gold). So of course i say ok. Well we get out there and he instructs me to die 4 times, and he does the same.

After that he says, "ok I'm off". He cast a number of things, maybe 4-5 then starts running. He got hit by meteor, fireball, surrounded by hydras and never even lost any life. Needless to say i was amazed since i hadn't seen anything like this before. Anyone know how this can be accomplished, he would say that he was using superior runes, but that's all he'd say. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Some monk ran me somewhere but didnt die 4 times before hand! I guess this was just to show off to you that he could still do it even with his DP! Yeah but this one guy who ran me somewhere was taking down about 10-15 hydras at once! I havea screenshot but it only shows him taking out a few (7-9) But when I asked him how he did it he wouldnt tell me said it was the trick of the trade or something

he was using the following skills(probably)

Whirling Defense
Stormchaser
Lightning Reflexes
Mending
Melandrus Resiliance
Healing Breeze
Protective Bond
Orison.

atleast thats what I use for Droknar runs. He wanted you to die so that he could get is HP down(death penalty) around the 100 HP Level. This way protective bond (no 1 hit can do more than 5% of your total HP) could keep him from taking more damage than his Mending could insta-heal. Whirling Defense and Lightning Reflexes give you 75% chance to evade attacks and stormchaser makes you run faster.

Permutations of the protection bond monk. It's the flavor of the moment. Look up topics like iron monk, invincible monk, UW solo, solo smite crawler runs and you will find details.

They run 5 superior runes to reduce life down to 105. Cast protective bond on themselves to limit damage to 5% per event, which is only 5 points of damage. So meteor and fireball that would have struck for 100 only does 5 points of damage. They cast essence bond or balthazar's spirit to offset the life drain from the protective bond. Then they probably cast mending on themselves to maintain 3 or 4 life regen. With something like this, you can stand in the middle of a bunch of hydra for hours and they can't do more than scratch you.

Dying is not critical, but DP actually makes it easier, not harder. A dozen hydra can't kill the monk configured this way after getting some DP.

That's neat, but could you actually do it with just a monk, no secondary class skills?
